What We Do
An analytical psychologist provides assistance to people who have chronic disabilities and illnesses, fear, embarrassment, psychological distress, anxiety, rage or anger, stress, mental illnesses, and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. The goal of these professionals is to ensure that these people are given the skills, drive, and empowerment to effectively change their life for the better. They also make sure that any unresolved obstacles and feelings can be resolved, allowing people to move on. Their duties include teaching people how to be more self-aware, particularly before entering a new relationship. Lastly, depending on the school of thought the analytical psychologist follows, these professionals also help deal with confusing and ambiguous thoughts, psychological and physical symptoms, and dream interpretation.
Work Environment
The vast majority of analytical psychologists run, or are partnered in, a private practice. In addition, they can also be heavily involved in research or they can become part of the college faculty. As such, it is a wide and varied field of work.
How to Become a Analytical Psychology
Becoming an analytical psychologist takes a long time. It starts with an undergraduate degree in psychology or another relative field, which takes four years to finish, followed by a two year master’s degree in analytical psychology. Before they can refer to themselves as a “psychologist”, however, they must hold a doctorate degree as well, which usually takes another two years or so. Furthermore, in order to be able to practice, a psychologist must also be fully licensed.
Training & Certification Requirements
In this country, holding a doctorate degree in psychology is generally recognized as the right education to be able to become licensed as an analytical psychologist. Each state, meanwhile, has its own rules and regulations when it comes to deciding how psychologists can obtain a license, and which training they must have completed. For further information, it is usually recommended to contact the American Psychological Association, as they have all the information regarding the various licensure requirements for each state. In order to maintain your license, you will also have to complete various continuous education credits as well.
