What We Do
Experimental psychologists are research scientists. They use various scientific methods to be able to gain a greater understanding of patients’ behavior and the mind in general. Furthermore, they often conduct their own research studies as well. In experimental psychology, the focus is very strongly on methodology. This sets it apart from other forms of psychology, which usually emphasize a certain field.
Work Environment
Environmental psychologists take up various research positions. Hence, they can be found within government, research centers, universities, and colleges. While around one third of psychologists overall work in independent practices, most of the experimental psychologists are employed by organizations and businesses.
How to Become a Experimental Psychology
Experimental psychologists are one of the few psychologists for which the Psy.D., which is a clinical degree, is not available. As it is a research type of function, experimental psychologists always hold a Ph.D., which is the research type of degree.
Training & Certification Requirements
All types of psychologists have to follow their state licensure requirements in order to be able to call themselves a psychologist and in order to be able to practice their profession. This generally means having a doctorate degree, completing an internship, and taking part in at least two years of supervised working experience. In most states, all psychologists must pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology as well.
